Updated Reference Material

Just downloaded the studio yesterday and am taking the "Using OpenBots Studio to Build Automations" course in the academy. It seems that the product has changed drastically since the video was made. I've found it impossible to follow along with the demonstration. I've done some searching and every bit of reference material I find refers to the older version. I've got version 1.6.0.0 Build Date: 08-18-2021.

Is there any reference information that's current? We're evaluating this product to see if we want to use it in our organization, and at this rate, it won't even come close.

Thanks!

Hello Vaughn,

We appreciate your feedback. As Brian mentioned, the Academy content has been updated to v1.6 in its majority. The OpenBots Developer Practice Automations videos description, indicate the Studio version that was employed to build each automation. The existing videos will remain as guidance for any client using previous versions of OpenBots. However, we are currently creating a new set of sample videos built in the latest version of Studio, which will be added to the course promptly.

In regards to the web-based automation queries, some configuration steps are needed to get started. I have provided solution to your queries in separate forum threads. Openbot Error Chrome Version 92 only

Our team is here to help you get started. The forums are a great source of information for new OpenBots/RPA users. Please, let me know if you have any questions or if the issues persist.

You might want to check out the content under "OpenBots Developer Practice Automations". They are all for versions 1.4 and 1.5. This makes them impossible to follow because of some core changes such as the need to use quotation marks around strings and the need to not use curly braces around variables.

More importantly, the ability to build web based automations with 1.6 is broken out of the box. Attempting to use the built-in recorder or any Selenium commands results in an error saying that only Chrome 92 is supported with no mention of a fix. Attempting to use native browser automation commands results in "Pipe" errors which are even less helpful than the one about unsupported versions of Chrome.

Based on the amount of time I spent trying to resolve these issues, I would imagine most people who try the product give up and move on before ever finding these forums and that is too bad. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

Hi Vaughn,

The material on the courses available in the Academy as well as other sections of our site that contains learning material have been updated to correspond with at least v1.6.0 of OpenBots Studio. Let me know if there is anything in particular that does not seem to correspond with the latest version and we will investigate.

I'm in the same boat. Is there an ETA for updated documentation and learning content. There is no way to succeed based on the content available today.

Hi Mike. We are currently working at updating all of the reference material on the site to be consistent with version 1.6.0. This will include updating all of the videos that either show or walkthrough writing code using OpenBots Studio, with our priority at the moment being the content for the Academy courses. These changes will be taking place during the next couple of weeks. Let me know if there is anything that we can help you with in the meantime.
